Andrea Frierson
"I did my first Broadway show, The Me Nobody Knows, when I was in high school. After breaking up with my first boyfriend, my mother and I learned about the Club from a tv quiz show we'd been watching. I moved into the Rehearsal Club in 1973 and remained there, on and off, for about a year and a half. I love history and I'm inspired by so many performers who came before me; performers like my parents, both nyc opera singers, and singers like Ella Fitzgerald, who came before them.
Here I am, today, in front of illustrator Faith Ringgold's mural at the 125th Street subway station, depicting Harlem heroes. So happy to be passing the torch to the next generation of young performers by heading TRC's Mentorship program, and through active involvement with TRC's Residency Committee, as Interim Chair. I continue to perform and write, and just returned from performing in the world-premiere of a new musical at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. I can currently be seen in the new Tracy Oliver/Amy Poehler series, "Harlem", streaming now on Amazon Prime."
